Privacy Policy

1. What this covers

This policy explains what My Room Abroad Korea (korea.myroomabroad.com) collects when you browse listings or start a booking, and — most importantly — exactly what we share with our booking partner, Plott, when you do. See our Terms & Conditions for how this site relates to Plott more generally.

Who is responsible for your information: My Room Abroad Company Limited (出國租股份有限公司, Unified Business No. 50895192), a limited company organized and operating in the Republic of China (Taiwan), at No. 163 Nanjing W Rd, Datong District, Taipei City 103, Taiwan. It is the party that decides what is collected on this site and why. "We" in this policy means that company. You can reach us at hello@myroomabroad.com.

2. What we collect

Browsing listings on this site doesn't require an account and we don't ask you for personal details (our hosting provider and visit statistics see ordinary connection data — see section 5). When you choose to start a booking on a room, the form asks for:

  • Your first and last name
  • Email address
  • Phone number (with country code)
  • Nationality

If you picked move-in and move-out dates, we also keep those with the booking, since they're part of the stay you asked for.

Confirming your email address. Before we send you to Plott Life, we email a 6-digit code to the address you entered and ask you to type it back. This proves the address is yours, so nobody can start a booking in someone else's name. To do this we briefly store the details you entered together with a scrambled (hashed) copy of the code — never the code itself — and a scrambled (hashed) copy of your IP address, which we use only to limit repeated requests. The code works for 10 minutes and for five attempts, and all of this is deleted within an hour, whether or not you finish.

3. Who we share it with, and why

The information above is shared with Handys Co., Ltd., the operator of Plott Life (life.plott.co.kr) — the platform that actually handles the lease contract and payment for a booking made through this site. We share it at the moment you submit the booking form (not before), and only after you've checked the consent box on that form. It's used to create your account with Plott Life and log you in there to continue your booking, and the dates you chose are passed along with it. If you already have a Plott Life account under the same email address, your booking is connected to that existing account. Handys is a Korean company, so this transfer crosses from Taiwan into Korea regardless of where you're booking from.

Per Plott Life's own Privacy Policy, they keep it until you withdraw your Plott Life membership — or, if there's an open inquiry, settlement, or refund, for 30 days after that's resolved (longer if Korean law requires it, e.g. e-commerce transaction records). Once you're on their site, they also automatically collect technical information about that visit — IP address, device info, and similar connection data — the same as any website; that part isn't something we send them, it's collected directly.

Companies that help us run the site. They handle information only to provide their service to us, not for their own purposes:

  • Cloudflare hosts this site and the database where our records are kept, and runs the bot check (Turnstile) on the booking form.
  • Resend delivers the confirmation email. It sees your email address and the message, which contains your code.

These companies may process information in countries other than Taiwan and Korea.

Beyond Plott Life and these providers, we don't sell your information, and we don't share it with anyone else.

4. Tracking a booking on our end

We keep an internal record of each handoff (the room, your dates, your name, email, phone, nationality, and when it happened) so we can confirm whether a booking that started here was actually completed on Plott's side. This is an operational record, not a marketing list — we use it to reconcile bookings, not to contact you outside of what's needed for your stay.

The record also notes which website or link brought you to our site (for example "google.com" or a campaign label in a link we published), so we can tell which of our channels lead to real bookings. See section 5 for how that's captured. It describes a channel, not you, and we keep it after your personal details are erased.

How long we keep it: only as long as we need it to confirm your booking with Plott Life. If you don't end up booking, we delete your name, email, phone number, nationality and Plott Life user number 90 days after you were handed off. If you do book, we delete them once we no longer need them, at most 12 months after your stay ends. After that we keep only a record with no personal details (the room, dates, and booking number) for our accounting.

5. Cookies & tracking

This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies, or cookie-based analytics. What we ourselves store in your browser is limited to what the site needs to function, with one exception you control: if you tick "Remember my details on this device" on the booking form, your name, email, phone number, and nationality are saved in your own browser (not on our servers) so the form is pre-filled next time. Untick it, use "Forget my saved details", or clear this site's data in your browser to remove them. The consent box is never remembered.

Where you came from: when you arrive, we note the website or tagged link that sent you (for example a search engine, or the link on our sister site myroomabroad.com) and keep that one short label in your browser's temporary session storage. It disappears when you close the tab, it isn't a cookie, and it isn't sent anywhere unless you start a booking — then it's saved with the booking record described in section 4, and never shared with Plott or any advertiser. We never link the pages you view to you or to a booking.

Visit statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages and countries they come from, and how fast pages load. Cloudflare says this service doesn't use cookies or other browser storage, and doesn't fingerprint or follow individual visitors across websites. The figures describe the page visited, the website that referred the visit, and general details such as country, device type, browser and operating system — never your name, email, phone number or booking. Cloudflare also hosts this site, so it handles ordinary connection data (such as your IP address) to deliver pages to you.

Security: Cloudflare's bot protection runs on this site to tell real visitors from automated traffic. It may store a small security cookie in your browser (named cf_clearance) recording whether your browser passed that check. It's used for security only, not for analytics or advertising.

The maps on this site are loaded by your browser directly from OpenFreeMap (openfreemap.org), which can see your IP address when it does. Listing photos load the same way: your browser fetches them directly from our booking partner's image server (cdn.plott.co.kr), which can likewise see your IP address. The "Naver Map" and "Google Maps" links on a listing only leave this site if you click them.

6. Your choices

Sharing your details with Plott is required to book through this site — without it, we have no way to start your booking on their platform. You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, give you a copy, correct it, stop using it, or delete it — email hello@myroomabroad.com from the address you booked with, and we'll reply promptly and in any case within the time the law requires. Deleting our record erases your name, email, phone number, nationality and Plott Life user number from it. For anything about your account, contract, or payment on Plott's platform, contact them directly — deleting our record doesn't affect data they already hold.

If you think we have handled your information unlawfully, you also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live.

7. Changes to this policy

If what we collect or share ever changes, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above. The booking form always reflects the current version of the consent you're agreeing to.
